What is Coaching? People think about hiring a coach when they have been grappling with an important issue, whether it is personal, business, or contemplating a new career and they want to make a change. They are ready to move forward and they want to make these changes in a conscious way.
There are a myriad of reasons why people choose to partner with a coach. Here are just a few of them:
Many adults finally reach a point where they are too busy, stressed out, and no longer enjoying their life. Life in the fast lane is no longer exciting… and they are ready to consciously look at creating a more meaningful work/life balance.
How Does Coaching Work:
If you decide you’d like to work with me, we’ll begin our journey with an in-depth 3 hour Design and Discovery Session. You will receive a questionnaire that will encourage you to reflect deeply about yourself as well as what you’d like to achieve through coaching. We will use the questionnaire as a jumping off platform for our work together. We will explore where you are at now, discover what you’d initially like to focus on, create a working list of your current values, and devise an initial plan of action. At the close of this first session (which can also be divided into 2 - 90 minute sessions), we will schedule our coaching calls. Coaching typically takes place on the phone. We will schedule 3 - 1-hour sessions per month. You are welcome to email between sessions with questions, insights and to share triumphs.
At the end of each coaching session, there will be homework and challenges. You take on as much homework as you choose, and most of the learning/growth/action/results happens between the calls.
All homework supports your commitment to lead your best life. Figuring out where you want to go, changing existing patterns, and taking concrete actions will lead to the dreams and changes you come to coaching for. At the start of each call, we will check in on your homework. The agenda for the rest of the call is up to you. The sessions will use coaching exercises as well as powerful questions which are designed to lead you to new insights and transformation. In between each call, you will receive unlimited support from me via e-mail. You may want to run something by me or delight in an accomplishment. You may also request brief check-in calls before or after a major step. I will never charge extra for this.
The model of coaching that I use is called Coactive Coaching. Co-active means that you and I will work together as equal partners in the service of helping you to realize your goals. I’ll celebrate your accomplishments and help you deepen your learning when things don’t go as planned. I’ll ask powerful questions, make requests, and offer challenges. I will hold the bigger picture of where you are headed and remind you of it when you forget. I’ll also set up a structure of accountability to keep you moving forward. I operate from the premise that you are naturally creative, resourceful and whole - and remind you of this basic premise when you forget.
To begin with, I ask all of my clients to make a 3-month commitment to our coaching relationship - that is a commitment to themselves, to give it their very best shot, as well as to the coaching relationship - to give the process a chance to get going. Three months is a reasonable length of time to begin to see the fruits of our work together. After that, we will change to a month-to-month basis.
